Payload Studios is a games industry indie success that's just landed a huge investment from Tencent
Here at IndieBloom, we have always been first in showing you the latest indie talent. Our latest blog celebrates a gaming indie, Payload Studios expanding and growing.
A recent tweet from them explains the good news.
London, February 24th 2021 – Payload Studios today announces that Tencent, a leading internet and technology company, has invested a minority stake in Payload. This investment will support the growth of the team and development of future titles with Payload’s signature community-driven model.
The London based gaming startup began in 2013, launching their award-winning flagship game, Terratech in 2018 for PC. Now available also on the PS4, Xbox One and Switch, the title is a mix between LEGO, Minecraft and Robot Wars.
They also run Tentacle Zone, described as 'A game focused co-working space and virtual incubator in the centre of London'. It provides other independent studios the chance to showcase, work and use the same equipment on their games. One of them being Netspeak Games (who we've previously written about.) ;)
The beginning stages saw Payload Studios using the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign around 2014. They raised just over £35000 (their targeted goal) with the help of 1600 backers. They've definitely come a long way since 👍
